El Dot Font

Preview of El Dot Font, a dotted style free Korean font

El Dot Font (엘점선체) is a sweet, practical little font born out of a very relatable problem: a parent looking for a dotted-outline typeface to help their child practice writing Hangul and not finding quite the right one, so they made their own. It follows the familiar dotted-guide format from any elementary Hangul workbook, with hollow, evenly-dashed outlines for each stroke that give a child’s pencil a clear path to trace. Since this font is made with the intention for writing practice, which means that it’s suitable for print with large font sizes, as the dots are ever so fine to be used on small font sizes. One alternative to add a stroke to thicken the dots to make it more visible.

The font is built on top of Naver’s Nanum Gothic Eco, reshaped into this dotted-outline treatment rather than drawn from scratch. The creator also mentioned that it wasn’t produced with precision which may have a few rough or awkward spots here and there. But since it’s for writing practice and tracing purposes, it works exactly what it needs to. This font is free to download and it’s released under SIL Open Font License.
