Chosun Centennial

Chosun Centennial (조선100년체, literally “Chosun 100 Years Font”) is a historically significant typeface released by the Chosun Ilbo newspaper to commemorate its 100th anniversary of founding in 1920. Developed by the Bang Il Young Cultural Foundation, it is a modern restoration of the letterforms that appeared in the Chosun Ilbo’s pages during the 1920s, a period when the newspaper served as a vessel for Korean national identity under Japanese colonial rule.
The design of the font stays true to the original presentation of the letters on the newspaper print that can be found way back to the 1920s. The characteristics and the textures of the printed letters are clearly seen and well preserved in the digital typeface, while remaining legible for contemporary use. To make the textures more obvious to see, it is recommended to use this font with bigger font sizes. It comes with single Regular weight, and you can download this font for free and be used on personal and commercial projects.
