Chosun Ilbo Myeongjo
Chosun Ilbo Myeongjo (조선일보명조) is the most recognized typeface in the Chosun Ilbo’s (or “Korean Daily” in English) font collection, a familiar typeface to the loyal readers of the newspaper. It is a new myeongjo typeface that inherits the lineage of existing classic forms while simplifying the strokes to achieve a modern aesthetic, striking a balance between tradition and contemporary design sensibility.
Due to its letterforms that are so widely seen and deeply familiar, Chosun Ilbo Myeongjo carries a sense of quiet authority, making it broadly versatile, though its familiarity also means it reads as understated rather than distinctive in logotype or headline contexts. It comes with single Regular weight, and this upgraded version was released for free to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the newspaper founding.
